Apparel/ Textiles/Garments

  • Karnataka’s share of national garment production is 20% and that of exports is about 8%.
  • Current garment exports of the state is valued at 0.88 bilion USD, accounting for 15% of the State's total exports
  • 1500 garment units of different sizes concentrated in and around Bangalore with an annual turnover exceeding 1 billion USD.
  • Bellary is emerging as the second largest center for the garment industry, next to Bangalore, particularly for jeans.
  • Over 6 lakh people are employed in garment industries in the state
  • In Sericulture, the State produces 65% of the Country’s raw silk 

Mineral, Steel and Cement

  • Abundant mineral resources- Pink and pink multi-coloured granite, gray granite, black and green granite, yellow granite, iron ore, manganese, soap stone, sand stone, moulding sand, limestone/dolomite, quartzite, aluminous laterite etc
  • Karnataka Mineral Policy 2008 providing fillip to mineral based industries
  • Annual production of over 10.13 million tonnes of cement and 7.29 million tonnes of steel. 25 million tonnes of steel production targeted by 2010.
  • Iron ore and mineral exports worth US $ 2.42 billion during 2007-08 

Food Processing

  • Vast agriculture and horticulture resources serve as raw material for a wide range of food processing industries
  • The only state blessed with 10 agro-climatic zones and nine distinct soil types ideal for growing virtually any agriculture and horticulture crops
  • International Flower Auction Board in Bangalore, facilitating flower export
  • Food processing SEZ at Hassan. Five agro-food processing industrial parks under development
  • Food processing zone encompassing Bangalore Rural, Kolar, Belgaum, Gadag, Koppal, Shimoga, Bagalkot, Bijapur, Davangere, Mandya  and Dharwad districts on the anvil
  • Karnataka Grape Processing and Wine Policy 2007 providing impetus to the production and marketing of wine and fetching better remuneration to farmers 


  • India aerospace Industry to cross US $ 100 billion mark in the next 20 years
  • Several reputed aerospace organizations like HAL, NAL, ISRO, DRDO, ADA, DARE,CAIR & BEL located in Bangalore
