The program was very well received by the diverse set of nominees ranging from Aerospace, Aviation, Law,
Management consulting, financial services, students apart from Trade representatives of Japan and Egypt.
The program concluded with an examination and distribution of certificates to the participants.
Conference on “Technology in Indian Food Industry: Global Best Practices”
Under the aegis of Food and Agri Business Committee of IACC, NIC, the Chamber had organized a Conference on
“Technology in Indian Food Industry: Global Best Practices on 22nd March 2013 in New Delhi. The Conference was
inaugurated by Mr. Tariq Anwar, Hon’ble Minister of State for Agriculture and Food Processing Industries.
The Hon’ble Minister in his inaugural address pointed out that the performance of the food processing industry has been
encouraging. He added that the Government had identified the industry as a sunrise industry that would give an
impetus to employment generation and rural development. The growth of the industry was necessary to tackle India’s
development issues. Mr. Anwar emphasized that the Government had taken several steps in order to boost growth. This
included several tax benefits and concessions in import duties on premium food processing equipment.
Other speakers during the Inaugural session included Mr. Lalit Bhasin, Regional President, IACC and Managing Partner,
Bhasin & Co; Mr. Gurnam Arora, Chairman, Food & Agri Business Committee & Joint Managing Director, Kohinoor Foods
Limited; Mr. Gokul Patnaik, Chairman, Global AgriSystem Pvt Ltd; Mr. Asit Tripathy, Chairman, The Agricultural and
Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) and Mr. Greg O'Connor, Principal Commercial Officer -
North India, US Embassy.
The technical session on Global Food Processing Industry – Growth Pattern & Market Characteristics was chaired by Mr.
S K Sharma, Managing Director, Global AgriSystem Pvt Ltd. The other speakers were Prof (Dr) Rajat K. Baisya, Chairman
& Chief Consultant, Strategic Consulting Group Pvt Ltd and Mr. Nitin Puri, Country Head & Group Executive Vice
President (FASAR), Yes Bank.
The Technical session on Role of Cold Chain in Developing Food Processing Industry was chaired by Mr. Pawanexh Kohli,
Chief Advisor, National Centre for Cold-chain Development, Department of Agriculture & Cooperation, Ministry of
Agriculture, Govt. of India; Mr. Rakesh Mehra, Production Head, Safal Frozen; Mr. Pankaj Mehta, Country Head & Asst.
Director, Carrier Transicold and Mr. Pankaj Kumar, Director, Ministry of Food Processing Industries
